If you know me, you might know
I listen to all types of music. From Hip hop to RnB, Jazz, Rock, Electronic, Latin,
Dub step, Reggae to name a few and the list goes on.
When listening to music, I am very particular with the songs that I will
download and pay for. Not so much listen to, but the music that I will actually
spend hard earned cash on. There are few tracks that can make me think money is
no object, and buy without second thought, but when they do they have to meet
certain criteria.
1. Substance - It has to mean
something, I don't just want to hear 3 to 4 minutes of repetitive drizzle.
After listening to a track I like to feel like I got something from it, even if
it’s something small. A feeling an understanding, something.
2. Lyrics - I'm all about writing,
dabbling in the art myself (rap & poetry), I love music that is well
written and versed.
From intricate stories to the simple formation of verses. Well thought punch
lines, metaphors and all that good stuff. I love it!
3. Vibe - This one is pretty simple.
I just have to feel the vibe of a track, does it sit with me? Could I listen to
this on repeat and not feel disgusted with myself afterwards? Could I even
listen to it?? (i.e. anything Miley Cyrus)
So with that said, I would like
to use todays post based on the letter 'N' and dedicate it to Nego True and The True Family, aka
TTF.
Who are TTF?
Well TTF is a collective which includes the talents of Nego, Sophia Thakur, Emmanuel Speaks and band members: Robert Bigby (Bigkeyz), Shenz and Kwesi.
I guess you can already tell by
the tone of this blog that I am a fan and why wouldn't I be?! Knowing them on a
personal level as well as musically, it’s clear to see these guys have something
special.
Now you know how I said earlier
that the music that I would buy has to reach certain criteria blah blah blah...
Well
these guys meet them and more!
Being able to witness first handedly the
creativity of some of these individuals, I can tell you that its not your
everyday run of the mill.
I was thinking of spending a
whole paragraph breaking down why.. But instead I'm simply going to post some
links to their music and let that speak for itself..
As it rightfully should.
